The Morning After The Night Before

November 11, 2010 ▴ Artist, Fashion, Photography

Let’s take a moment of silence for Remembrance Day (or Poppy Day, Armistice Day or Veterans Day depending on where you’re from) and look at some gorgeous photography. The Morning After The Night Before, photographed by Jeff Hahn featuring Sam Thompson of Models 1. The Morning After The Night Before was photographed using film and Polaroid cameras for a vintage effect to capture the essence an old but modern London.

Plants and Animals – Mercy

November 10, 2010 ▴ Audio

Plants and Animals is a band that’s both played and been missed at Habitat twice by myself. I also missed them JUNO weekend in Vancouver back in Spring 2009 at the Railway Club. My history with this band is less fortunate than the sounds they create. This is from their 2008 album, Parc Avenue.

Giant Paperclip Art Installation, Belgium

This is an art installation created by Mehmet Ali Uysal, displayed at the Chaudfontaine park in Belgium. The unusual park addition replicates the clip, a common smart tool used to hang clothes for drying. The giant clipper becomes the focal point of this particular area of the park shown below and looks great while adding a bit of originality to its surroundings. From what I understand, the installation hopes to raise awareness of the affect of modern art in regular situations, and I applaud. Art has the ability to transform a simple and unattractive space into an area that feels alive, and I’d love to see more installations like this in BC and Canada.

Familia – Safe and Sound

November 6, 2010 ▴ Video

This is another sweet pick from my friends at Amazing Factory Productions Inc., and while it came out back in January, I’ll watch this video over again every few months. Great cinematography and I’m a horror buff so the genre isn’t lost. Great work guys!

Politics and the English Language

November 6, 2010 ▴ Culture, Quotes

A man may take to drink because he feels himself to be a failure, and then fail …all the more completely because he drinks. It is rather the same thing that is happening to the English language. It becomes ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish, but the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts. The point is that the process is reversible.
George Orwell (Politics and the English Language. 1946)

The series of posters I created for our Winter concert promo, launched in October 2010. Unfortunately, due to liquor licensing issues some of these shows had to be canceled. Bummer.

The Social Media Sobriety Test

November 4, 2010 ▴ Web

“Nothing good happens online after 1 a.m.” claims Webroot, and I happen to know that’s only partially factual. However, the new Webroot Firefox plug-in aims to curb potentially harmful online behavior by giving the user a virtual field test before posting on certain social networks at certain times.

After downloading the plug-in, you basically get to set up your own “road blocks” before posting to Facebook, Twitter and more. If you try to access one of those sites within time frame you specify, you’ll have to perform one of a multitude of hand-eye coordination tests aimed at making sure you’re sober enough to post. The best part is what happens when you fail, watch the video to see what the Sobriety Test posts for you…
