January 7, 2011 ▴ Audio, Mixcast, Music

Oh hey there! What, this? Oh, this is just you and me and we are finally back together again for a new Mixcast. Now, the first Mixcast of 2011 is somewhat scattered—a little bit like my brains, all over the place this time of year—and it’s entirely possible that the only common thread in this Mixcast is its own inconsistency. Enjoy!

  • Die Slow by HEALTH
  • Running From the Cops by Phantogram
  • Summertime by We Are Wolves
  • Cover Your Tracks by Young Galaxy
  • Home by LCD Soundsystem
  • Never Content by Air France
  • Salvation by Scanners
  • Lady Daydream by Twin Sister

Christopher Kane Menswear Spring 2011

January 7, 2011 ▴ Fashion, Space

Christopher Kane’s releases his first ever menswear collection and, thank almighty Thor, the common theme throughout this collection was Space.

The detail and colour of the explosions and landscapes. The hooded sweatshirt above features an abstract explosion of colors and… leather sleeves? London blogger 00 o 00 tried it on and claims the leather sleeves are paper thin and lightweight, but we’ll have to take his word for it until someone here is brave enough for any of these items.

I am brave enough for this

Most of the pieces from this collection were made from cashmere and silk, by one of the oldest Scottish woolen mills, Johnstons of Elgin. Johnstons also supplies and manufactures knitwear for many other luxury fashion houses.

Productive

January 6, 2011 ▴ Inspiration

You know, I am not a morning person. I don’t like getting up early. In fact, I’m pretty cranky before I even have my first coffee of the day, it doesn’t matter what time of the day that is, that first cup is essential to my mood, just ask my mom. So on days like today, and this week, it’s nice getting to the computer at the time that regular people get to work at. I read an article that said for true success, it’s important to get up early (ish) at the same time every day and just start working.  I will try to do that more. I like that it’s 10:30 in the morning and rather than just putting coffee on, I’ve already scheduled 5 posts for FP and Awesome Okanagan, developed some artwork concepts, and completed a bunch of other things. Just… awesome.

I’ve also attached the Memory Tapes remix here for you to check out

Starbucks Gets Logo Update

January 5, 2011 ▴ Coffee, Culture, Design

The news of the day is—undeniably—the 40th anniversary of Starbucks and their latest update to their logo. I would like to go on record and say that I love it, I think it’s fantastic. The latest logo embraces the Swedish and Modernist ideals of minimalism we see enveloping design worldwide, removing the clutter, all the bells and whistles, and says what it’s about, the coffee. I’m very excited to see this more conservative (design-wise, anyway) look unveil as the years progress.

Read more and watch a neat video about it here.

PANTONE Visa Cards

January 2, 2011 ▴ Culture, Design

@gregsczebel shared this treat with me. He’s claimed Firecracker, I think I can pull off Honeysuckle. What colour are you? Read more after the jump…

I made up a Visa I would love to see… wood grain & gold lettering? Yes please.
