It’s easy to forget all the horrible things that are happening everywhere basically all of the time. That’s just how our feeble human minds work, out of sight is literally out of mind. Especially in British Columbia and Canada where we’re more focused on going to the polls. Again.
George Stroumboulopoulos posted this video this morning showing just how fast the waters come, and how powerful it is. It’s just completely surreal.
Tom Ford – fashion powerhouse/film mogul/old school romantic/myhero – is the cover star of the spring/summer 2011 issue of Another Man and presents Tom Ford’s five easy lessons in how to be a modern gentleman.
You should put on the best version of yourself when you go out in the world because that is a show of respect to the other people around you.
A gentleman today has to work. People who do not work are so boring and are usually bored. You have to be passionate, you have to be engaged and you have to be contributing to the world.
Manners are very important and actually knowing when things are appropriate. I always open doors for women, I carry their coat, I make sure that they’re walking on the inside of the street. Stand up when people arrive at and leave the dinner table.
Don’t be pretentious or racist or sexist or judge people by their background.
A man should never wear shorts in the city. Flip-flops and shorts in the city are never appropriate. Shorts should only be worn on the tennis court or on the beach
Back with another Mixtape. I know it’s been a long time since a Mix of anything, believe me that I have the next three Mixcasts already sorted in their folders, I even have 5 other Mixes near completion, three of them are part of a Summer Sessions series I plan on doing, but maybe they’ll all end up in a beachy Mixtape… we’ll see. Anyway, this has been mixed since about 2 1/2 weeks ago, last night was the first chance I had to get to the ‘cover’ artwork. This Mixtape is totally psychedelic, listen to this one alone to ensure full trippyness. Take it on a dark walk with headphones, lie back in your bed smoking that “hand-rolled cigarette” and enjoy this psychotropic trip of music.

Another email that just came in, Cut Copy is about to launch ‘number of quality reinterpretations of “Need You Now”’ and the first sneak peak they sent is this re-imagined version by Architecture in Helsinki who ‘for some reason thought it would be a good idea to imagine the tune as a classic Roy Orbison record’.
This morning I was lucky enough to find in my mailbox a link from Nettwork Music Group for this great single on the latest William Fitzsimmons album “Gold in the Shadow” featuring Julia Stone from Agnus & Julia Stone (who I posted yesterday). I’m doubly excited because I’ve also posted Fitzsimmons before and really got into his last album “Derivatives” a couple months back. Gold in the Shadow is due out April 11th, but if you’re eager the digital release was March 22nd and you can pick it up here.
When Tiffany’s mother Joanne came to me a month ago regarding Tiffany’s website, she had a special request, “we don’t feel that this look represents her music and is outdated.”
It was February 20th and Tiffany had a new single being released mid-March, they were hoping to tie a new website into their marketing piece that would reflect the new direction that Tiffany’s sound was taking in “High,” her latest single. Most importantly, she sweetened the deal with “we would like the option of maintaining of content once the site is finished,” which is one of my favorite things to do. Empowering a client is so important, what’s the point of them having a website they can’t use and update themselves. After a few emails back and forth, it was clear we were on the same page and both parties felt comfortable moving forward.
You can see from the initial two designs I presented that sometimes these things can take completely different directions. With some hard work, we were able to get the site built to go live Friday, March 18th. There’s nothing like a challenge to bring out the best in people, it was a complete pleasure to work with Joanne, Tiffany and her team to bring this concept to light.
One of my closest and dearest friends moved to Montréal a couple years back to focus on Modeling, fire-hooping and marine biology. No jokes. I’m very proud of him.
Admittedly I’m not a watch guy. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to be. But I generally spend upwards of $300 when I buy a watch and usually only wear them for a couple months before they disappear into my drawer (see. Watch Graveyard). I told myself if I was to get another watch, it would have to be somewhat timeless, masculine and pretty simple/elegant. This recent re-launch of the Seagull 1963 is that kind of watch I think.
In 1961 the Tianjin Watch Factory was assigned to manufacture the first Chinese aviation watch (chronograph) for the Air Force of the People’s Liberation Army. The code of the assignment was “304.” The factory pre-manufactured three batches of the aviation watch by October 1962. In the end of the year 38 leaders and experts (industrial ministry, air command, and naval equipment supervisors) came together for the appraisal of the watch. After the meeting the Tianjin Watch Factory received permission to begin the mass production of the watch. In 1963 the factory completed and delivered 1400 aviation watches to the Chinese Air Force.
The chrono has an automatic movement with a 40 hour power reserve, is made in China and retails for a cool $339. Find out more here.

The editor in chief of British GQ, Mr. Dylan Jones, collaborated with Anya Hindmarch to create Hindmarch’s first ever men’s bag. I have been looking into getting a new bag, I love to get everything in one trip from my car to my door and a properly organized bag is the first step in this process.
This started out over lunch with Dylan, actually. We were talking about men and the manbag, and how a lot of people struggle with them. We had just started thinking about doing a men’s line, so I thought that doing something with Dylan would be perfect. The butter leather we make the bag out of is made at the most beautiful tannery in France called Tanneries Roux. It’s pretty much the best most expensive leather you can buy, so naturally Dylan chose that. [laughs] It wears, and it’s a very untreated, pure skin, so it changes colour with age. It’s as good as it gets.
I’m now taking donations for my new bag. It starts at £1,095 (about $1,723 CAD), so feel free to get real generous.
